Budaun Double Murder: Police arrest 2nd accused

A man accused in the Budaun double murder case was apprehended from Bareilly, the police confirmed on Thursday. The arrest comes after authorities launched a manhunt, forming five teams to track down Javed, accused in the killing of two children.

“Javed, the brother of the main accused Sajid, was arrested by a police team in nearby Bareilly district. He is being brought to the district for further questioning,” stated Badaun Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Priyadarshi.

Javed surrendered at the Satellite Police outpost of Baradari Police Station in Bareilly, according to the SSP.

The horrific incident unfolded when Sajid, who operates a barber shop, allegedly entered the home of a family known to him and attacked three children—Ayush (12), Ahaan alias Honey (8), and Yuvraj (10)—with a knife on Tuesday. Tragically, Ayush and Ahaan succumbed to their injuries, while Yuvraj remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Shortly after the murders, Sajid was killed in a police encounter. Javed had been on the run since the incident.

Both Javed and Sajid have been charged under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

Late Wednesday, the police announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for Javed’s arrest, with SSP Priyadarshi revealing that five teams were deployed to apprehend him.

‘We cry for all children just as for our own’, said Deputy Ambassador of Israel to India

Expressing shock and sadness over the incident, Israel conveyed its deep distress. “We are completely devastated by the information unraveling about the brutal killing of Ayush and Ahaan in #Budaun,” said Ohad Nakash Kaynar, Deputy Ambassador of Israel to India.

Reflecting on the ongoing conflict, Kaynar emphasized, “As Israelis who have just seen the most heinous crimes perpetrated against defenseless children in our southern cities, we cry for all children just as for our own. Heartbreaking,” a message reposted by the Israeli Embassy stated.

The mother of the victims expressed her hope for answers, saying, “It is Javed who can disclose the motive behind the murder of my minor sons. I still do not know why Sajid killed my sons. Maybe he did it at someone’s behest.”

Local media reports indicated that during an attack on Israel by Hamas militants on October 7, 2023, more than 30 Israeli children were killed. Israel asserts that 130 hostages abducted last year remain in captivity, as reported by The Wall Street Journal.

Responding to allegations of Hamas targeting children, the group released footage of its militants caring for infants and toddlers.
