The Congress party in Assam has asked its leaders to refrain from openly discussing alliance and seat-sharing for next year’s Lok Sabha polls.

The party is expected to announce a list of candidates next month. Recently, Congress legislator Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha had said that allies of INDIA alliance, like Trinamool Congress, hardly have a base in Assam. This evoked a sharp reaction from the TMC, which asked the Congress leadership to rein in its leaders and ask them not to talk about seats.

State president of the TMC, Ripun Bora, recently said the party would seek five seats from the grand alliance, including Karimganj.

Assam Congress president BK Borah said Congress leaders are asked to make statements in public regarding seats in public.
