The furious pace of car sales in the country last year has apparently set the momentum for 2024. With 4.1 million cars sold in 2023, India’s passenger vehicles sales breached the 4 million mark for the first time, an 8.2% rise from the 3.79 million vehicles sold in 2022, as per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers data. The electric vehicle segment too surged, comprising 6.4% of overall car sales last year, with Tata in the lead, followed by MG Motors.
If you too are planning to add to the rising sales figures by buying a car this year, be it the gasoline version or an EV, ET Wealth and Cardekho.com are here to help you take the decision. However, unlike in the past, when we put together a ranking of the top choices in various price segments, this year we have decided to focus exclusively on an array of highly anticipated launches in 2024. From new generation models to heavily updated ones, from facelifted internal combustion engine (ICE) models to all-new electric vehicles, there’s something for everyone. With a line-up that spans manufacturers and budgets, this year is poised to be an enthralling one for automotive enthusiasts and consumers alike. The much-awaited launches include vehicles from top names like Maruti Suzuki, Kia, Skoda, Tata, Hyundai and Mahindra, among others.
To help you pick a car as per your budget and requirements, we have categorised the vehicles into three price segments: below Rs.20 lakh, Rs.20-40 lakh and over Rs.40 lakh. Besides the new and revamped features, as well as the usual specifications, we have calculated the running cost per month in Delhi, EMI for a five-year car loan and resale value after three years. However, these figures are strictly based on estimates of prices and mileage.
Since some cars are scheduled for launch later in the year, it may stretch your waiting period a bit, but it will also imply that you can choose from a diverse range of new cars with better looks, enhanced features and improved specifications. For your decision-making ease, we have also mentioned whether a particular model is worth waiting for or not, along with a short listing in each price category of other launches that may be worth considering.
