The Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi was also targeted, with the BJP demanding an apology from her as well. She responded stating that she was unnecessarily being dragged into the controversy and noted that he has already offered an apology.

Union minister Smriti Irani demanded an apology from the Congress party, after accusing them of “demeaning” President Droupadi Murmu and her office. She alleged that the Congress has malicious intent and has been targeting Murmu ever since her nomination as a Presidential candidate by the BJP-led NDA.

While talking to reporters during their protest at Vijay chowk on Wednesday, Chowdhury had used the word ‘rashtrapatni” for President Murmu, sparking the controversy.
