Monkeypox: ICMR Invites EoIs for Vax Development

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the country’s top health research centre, on Wednesday invited expressions of interest (EoIs) from vaccine manufacturers to develop vaccines against Monkeypox.

It has also invited EoIs from makers of diagnostic kits. The last date to respond to the invitation is August 10.

India has so far reported four cases of the viral infection.

The National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune has isolated the virus, people in the know told ET.

Delhi-based ICMR has asked experienced vaccine manufacturers, pharma companies, R&D institutions and in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) kit manufacturers for collaboration to develop vaccine candidates against Monkeypox and kits for the diagnosis of the infection, said a notice posted on its website.

The ICMR said it reserved all the intellectual property and commercialisation rights on the Monkeypox virus isolates and the method/ protocols for purification, propagation and characterisation.
