PM Modi will attend the 14th BRICS summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the 14th BRICS Summit hosted by China in a virtual format on June 23-24, 2022, at the request of President Xi Jinping.

The summit’s theme is “Fostering High-quality BRICS Partnership, Introducing in a New Era of Global Development.”

The conference is likely to include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and leaders from Brazil and South Africa.

The 14th BRICS Summit is scheduled to focus on intra-BRICS cooperation in areas including as counter-terrorism, commerce, health, traditional medicine, the environment, science, technology, and innovation, agriculture, technical and vocational education and training, and MSMEs. Discussions are also expected on problems like as multilateral system reform, combating the COVID-19 pandemic, and global economic recovery, among others.

BRICS has evolved into a forum for debate and deliberation on matters of common importance to all developing countries. The BRICS countries have often urged for multilateral reform to make it more representative and inclusive.

Prior to the Summit, the Prime Minister will deliver a taped keynote speech at the BRICS Business Forum Opening Ceremony on June 22, 2022.
