This may be the biggest ‘pet project’ of Ratan Tata’s life. The former chairman of the Tata Group has reportedly finished building a hospital for pets in Mumbai. According to a Times Of India report, the hospital will open its doors in March! The hospital will reportedly operate on a 24X7 basis.
In an interview with the Times Of India, the billionaire explained that when he had to fly his pet dog to Minnesota, USA, for an emergency operation,made him open his eyes to the necessity of a pet-centric hospital in India that will be available all the time.
“A pet is no different than a member of one’s family today. As the guardian of several pets throughout my life, I recognise the need for this hospital,” he told the news outlet.

When He Treated An Injured Pup
In 2023, the tycoon took to Instagram and urged his owners to come and claim him. He revealed that the dog, who was probably abandoned by his owners was being treated by him. “My office has found an abandoned/lost dog last night at Sion Hospital, Mumbai. If you are his guardian or have any leads, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with some evidence of ownership. Meanwhile he is in our care and is being treated for his wounds,” he wrote.
He Gave The Royal Invitation A Miss!
It’s not everyday that you are invited to the Buckingham Palace! Columnist Suhel Seth once revealed in an interview that in 2018, the billionaire was invited by Prince Charles who wanted to confer a lifetime achievement award to him. He declined to go one of his two pet dogs – Tango and Tito was grievously ill.
When he was notified of this development, Charles was all praise for the tycoon. “That’s a man. That’s the man Ratan is. That’s why the house (House Of Tata) is what it is. That’s why it is on stable course!”
A Protector Of Stray Dogs
The tycoon is often known to rescue stray dogs. At Bombay House – the global headquarters of the Tata Group, many dogs have found a home! Among them Goa, a beautiful black and white dog is said to be his favourite. The dog is often spotted accompanying Tata during meetings!
He Funded An NGO For Strays!
The billionaire extended support to ‘Motopaws’ an initiative by his assistant Shantanu Naidu which is dedicated to rehabilitating stray dogs who have met with accidents,
