The US President held a telephone conversation with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday as tens of thousands of Russian troops are deployed near the Ukrainian border.
A White House statement said President Biden “reaffirmed the readiness of the United States along with its allies and partners to respond decisively if Russia further invades Ukraine” during the talks.
White House National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne said: “President Biden said that there is a distinct possibility that the Russians could invade Ukraine in February.
“He has said this publicly and we have been warning about this for months.”

UN security council to meet
The US ambassador to the UN said Russia is “engaging in destabilising acts” and “posing a clear threat to international peace and security”.
Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said the UNs security council would meet on Monday for “direct and purposeful discussion”.
Ms Thomas-Greenfield said: “As we continue our relentless pursuit of diplomacy to de-escalate tensions in the face of this serious threat to European and global peace and security, the UN Security Council is a crucial venue for diplomacy,”
