SA Tourism scoops top Tiger Brands marketer

South African Tourism has head-hunted a marketing heavyweight from JSE-listed consumer goods giant Tiger Brands to lead its marketing efforts.

The national destination marketing agency on Wednesday announced Thembisile Sehloho has been appointed as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Sehloho, who boasts more than two decades of experience in strategic branding and marketing, is the former marketing director of Tiger Brands.

South African Tourism said that Sehloho is transitioning to the tourism agency from Tiger Brands and noted that her contributions were instrumental in molding and revitalising several household brands in South Africa.

Sehloho has also worked on JSE-listed AVI’s Bakers and Willards brands.

“With a proven track record of driving market share and growth through innovative brand strategies, Thembisile’s expertise will be instrumental in elevating South African Tourism’s marketing initiatives,” said the agency.

Nombulelo Guliwe, CEO of South African Tourism, echoed these sentiments and said: “As Thembisile assumes her new role as CMO, I am confident that her strategic vision, leadership skills, and profound brand and marketing knowledge will drive our marketing initiatives to new heights.”

Sehloho has an extensive academic background, including an MBA in Leadership and Innovation from the University of Edinburgh, a BCom in Accounting from the University of Johannesburg, and several other certificates from Wits and Gibs.



Commenting on her new role, Sehloho said “it is an honour to be entrusted with marketing our beautiful country”.

“As I embark on this new journey, I am excited to be able to use marketing to harness the power of storytelling. allowing us to connect with local travellers, encouraging them to explore their country, as well as invite travellers from our key source markets and beyond to come explore and experience Mzansi,” she added.

Prior to her tenure at Tiger Brands, Sehloho began her career at global FMCG conglomerate Unilever in finance. She rejoined Tiger Brands in the early stages of her career from where she moved to AVI before returning to Tiger Brands.
