Satyendar Jain cites memory loss due to Covid

Delhi minister Satyendar Kumar Jain cited memory loss due to Covid-19 when ‘confronted with incriminating evidence’ during his custodial interrogation, the Enforcement Directorate has alleged, while opposing his bail in a local court on Tuesday.

ED urged the court not to release Jain, alleging that there was a strong likelihood that he would ‘tamper with evidence’ and ‘intimidate witnesses’ in the case. Jain’s counsel, however, contended that there was no chance of Jain tampering with evidence as ED had already collected them. He said Jain was quizzed by ED on seven occasions and he ‘fully cooperated’.

When the court asked what more ED was looking for, its counsel said that the ‘money trail’ and ‘further alleged dubious entries’ need to be unearthed as Jain had ‘remained evasive’ during interrogation.

The court reserved its order till June 18.
