It looks set to be a busy few weeks for Microsoft fans. The Redmond-based company has already confirmed that its next operating system, Windows 11, will become available on October 5. Days after that, Microsoft teased its next hardware event for September 22. And now, we might have our first clue about what to expect to see at the September event.
According to the latest whispers, we could see a successor to the Surface Book 3, presumably called Surface Book 4. A follow-up to the Surface Duo, a dual-screen Android-powered smartphone developed by the Microsoft Surface team to boost productivity on the move.
But the most concrete rumour about what to expect comes from German blog WinFuture, which has a solid track record when it comes to as-yet unannounced devices. WinFuture claims that Surface Go 3 will be one of the central announcements at the September 22 event.
For those who don’t know, Surface Go is a smaller, more affordable version of the classic Surface two-in-one formula. With the keyboard cover attached, the Surface Go is a perfect laptop replacement for students, or those looking for a secondary, portable machine.

According to WinFuture, the third entry in the series won’t stray too far from its predecessors’ winning formula. Microsoft fans can expect a similar design, with an all-screen 10.5-inch touchscreen display complete with a magnetic attachment for the Surface Pen. The QWERTY keyboard will still be available in a variety of colours.
The biggest difference will be found on the inside, with recent Geekbench entries seemingly confirming the gadgets will rely on Intel’s Amber Lake processors. The benchmarks suggest the top-tier model will use an Intel Core i3-10100Y quad-core chip, coupled with 8GB of RAM.
Windows 11: Microsoft teases brand new software update
Combined with the improvements coming to Windows 11, which Microsoft says will boost battery life and performance on all machines, the new Surface Go 3 should see faster speeds compared to its predecessor.
Although there’s no confirmation that Surface Go 3 will ship with Windows 11 preinstalled, it seems pretty likely. After all, Surface Go 2, which is still available to buy at £359 today, is guaranteed to get a “free upgrade to Windows 11,” a banner has confirmed.
If Microsoft has managed to keep the same balance of price, power, and design, it could be onto another winner. Express.co.uk will be watching the Microsoft event on September 22, so we’ll have all the news as soon as it’s announced. Stay tuned.
