The former President appeared to take aim at the Biden Administration and its handling of the international health crisis. Speaking to Fox News host Dan Bongino on Saturday, Mr Trump theorised about the treatment he would have received from critics if the US had been under “this massive attack from the coronavirus” when he was in office.
He said: “Well, first of all, could you imagine if I were president right now and we had this massive attack from the coronavirus, you know, now they like to call it, they have new names and they have other new names, but it’s exactly what we had, we had the same thing.
“If that were me, they would say ‘what a horrible thing, what a horrible job.’
“These are numbers in some cases that are equivalent to what it was, but we don’t hear that.”
By the time Mr Trump departed the Oval Office at the beginning of the year, the US had recorded more than 400,000 coronavirus deaths.

The 45th President also faced criticism during the early days of the pandemic over his controversial advocacy of antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine for the treatment of the disease without any proven effects.
In May last year, Mr Trump announced he had started taking the medication around the time an outbreak of coronavirus at the White House sparked concerns for his safety.
His latest remarks sparked backlash, with some viewers taking to social media to counter his views.
One Twitter user wrote: “I don’t have to imagine… I survived his complete and utter failure. Instead of testing and tracing, he wanted us in church on Easter.

“Instead of masks and social distancing, he wanted disinfectant injected and a light therapy.
“Instead of effective treatment, chloroquine.”
Another person tweeted: “That’s one thing we don’t have to imagine.
“We were all there & over 600K are no longer here because he WAS President during such a time as that!”
A third commenter added: “An example of severe cognitive decline with a dash of insanity.”
