Virat Kohli, the star Indian batsman widely regarded as one of the greatest on the crease, is celebrating his 35th birthday this year by playing against South Africa at the Eden Garden, Kolkata.
Adorning jersey number ’18’ back in 2008, the batsman has consistently dominated headlines with his extraordinary run-scoring ability.
Both BCCI and his IPL team RCB both rushed to social media ‘platform X’ to wish the mega star.
The man who himself is Kohli’s biggest inspiration posted on ‘X’ for the batsman. “Virat, may you keep winning hearts with your passion and performances. Wishing you a great year ahead and a very happy birthday,” said Sachin Tendulkar.
Fans are eagerly waiting for Kohli to break Tendulkar’s record of scoring highest number of centuries. Tendulkar has scored 49 while Kohli has 48 under his name.
AB de Villiers, former South Africa’s captain, who has been with Kohli in RCB in IPL posted a video of himself wishing the man a happy birthday. The duo were spotted at Eden Gardens together sharing a hug on Kohli’s birthday.
“His hunger and his passion for the game are unparalleled. I have not seen anyone who is as hungry and as passionate as him,” India’s prince of cricket ‘Shubhman Gill’ said in a video by ICC.
Veteran spinner Ashwin who has spent years with Kohli said: “He’s changed the DNA of thinking around Indian cricket. How one batsman needs to perceive it. How one batter needs to prepare for a game.”
Former Indian cricketer Yuvrai Singh penned a heartfelt message for Kohli.
“When you joined the team as a youngster who was eager for opportunities and hungry to perform, it was clear to everyone that you were destined for greatness. You’ve not only made a mark for yourself but have also inspired countless others to strive for excellence,” said Singh in his message on ‘X.’
Ex-India opener Virendra Sehwag said: “Century haemoglobin ki tarah inki ragon mein daudti hai. A young guy with dreams in his eyes, with his work-ethics, passion, hardwork and talent has ruled the game . Ups and downs yes but what has remained constant is his intensity and hunger. Best wishes”
“A very Happy Birthday @imVkohli! Your journey from hard work and determination to becoming a world-class player is nothing short of legendary. You’ve come a long way, and it’s great to witness how far you’ve come. Here’s to more milestones and success in your life!” said former batter Suresh Raina.
